"The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice" – Pr 12:15

The eighth biblical way to overcome procrastination is to seek Godly counsel when we got stuck in a situation. Sometimes we could be so absorbed in a situation that we lost the big picture. It is dangerous to assume we are right all the time, and our stubbornness could prevent us from a breakthrough..“Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.” (Pr 28:26) When we take a step back and seek Godly counsel, it is very likely that we will gain a totally new perspective to our situation.

Of course not all the counsel we receive are Godly. We need to learn from the Berean Jews, they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. (Ac 17:11). The Word of God is our final authority.

Three practical steps to seek Godly counsel; (1) Ask God to guide you to the right person. (Pr 1:5) As children of God we are guided by His Spirit (Ro 8:14); (2) Choose your counselor and friend carefully. (Pr 12:26). A blessed man does not walk in the counsel of the wicked. (Ps 1:1); (3) Look for someone endured through the trials of life and yet still stand firm in faith. They are not perfect yet they are being perfected through Christ in their battle against the enemy. Their experience gave them the authority to speak to your situation. (2Co 1:4).

Let’s pray.

Lord, thank you for surrounding me with Godly friends and counselors who care for my walk with you. Please give me the wisdom to seek Godly counsel when I am at the cross-road. In Jesus name I pay, amen.

Before we go, take a look at the questionnaire below:

1. How do you think Christians should use biblical truth and prayer to discern whether the advice they hear is truly based on spiritual wisdom and not just human insight or opinion?

2. Why is it important to seek spiritual counsel when facing difficulties and challenges?

3. What spiritual criteria do you think should be considered when choosing advisors and friends?
